FREQUENTLY  ASKED  QUESTIONS

IS ELECTROLYSIS SAFE?
Definitely. For over one hundred years, electrolysis has a long history of safe and permanent results when performed by a qualified licensed electrologist. In this office, modern, state of the art, computerized equipment is used to perform comfortable electrolysis treatment with successful permanent results. Committed to providing maximum protection against the transmission of any kind of infectious disease, patient safety is never taken lightly. All equipment coming in contact with the patient is sterilized in a monitored autoclave. We remain in strict compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and the American Electrology Association's standards. Additionally, the “Infection Control Standards For The Practice of Electrology,” which were developed by the American Electrology Association is followed in strict compliance.

IS ELECTROLYSIS PAINFUL?
The sensation seems similar to a warm tweeze. Patients of all ages, from teenagers to the elderly, find the brief sensation of heat to be quite tolerable. It is really a very minor discomfort when you consider the lasting results it can achieve for you: soft, clear, hair free skin.

HOW IS HAIR REMOVED BY ELECTROLYSIS?
A tiny, flexible metal wire is gently inserted into one of the natural openings of the hair follicle on the skin surface from which the hair is growing. The follicle is completely destroyed and the hair is then removed from the follicle. With the wire in place, a small amount of electrical energy is immediately applied below the surface of the skin into the follicular structure.

ARE THERE DIFFERENT METHODS OF ELECTROLYSIS?
Yes, there are three. These methods of electrolysis always require the use of one or more probes and encompass the utilization of two electrical currents. The two electrical currents, electrolysis or direct current (DC) and thermolysis or alternating current (AC), are either applied separately or blended. Hence, the three methods of electrolysis-which all accomplish permanent hair removal.

WHAT CAUSES THE GROWTH OF EXCESS HAIR?
Hormone changes in the body that create an excess of androgens (male sex hormones) can initiate the growth of excess hair that is medically referred to as hirsutism. Normal physiological changes such as puberty, pregnancy or menopause can create unwanted hair growth for some individuals. In addition, surgical menopause, medications, emotional stress, and illness can also be influencing factors. If you have any concerns or your hair problem is severe, it is prudent to see a physician who specializes in reproductive endocrinology for evaluation. It should be noted that when medical treatment is successful, it will prevent the progression of hirsutism but will not eliminate the existing excess hair. Excessive hair may require medical intervention. Electrolysis will still be required to permanently remove the existing excess hair, particularly if it is of a coarse type.

IS ELECTROLYSIS EXPENSIVE?
When you compare the cost of electrolysis with other heath and beauty treatments, it is very affordable. A price cannot be placed on the confidence and enjoyment received over a lifetime by the absence of unsightly, unwanted hair.

HOW MANY ELECTROLYSIS TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Since many factors influence hair growth, you will need to return for a number of electrolysis visits. Each hair follicle only needs to be treated once, yet each hair growing in the hair-growth cycle will need to be treated. Most clients return once a week or every other week, as necessary. But the unwanted hair will be gone forever once every hair follicle has been treated. Each treatment lasts between 15 minutes and one hour.

The most commonly treated areas for the permanent hair removal service of electrolysis are as follows:
  • Head and Neck Areas:  Upper Lip / Chin / Under chin / Throat / Side of the face / Eyebrows / Top & Sides of nose / Ears / Forehead hairline / Nape of neck neckline

Is Electrolysis really permanent?

Picture
Yes. The permanent hair removal process of electrolysis uses electrical energy therapeutically to prevent the regenerative ability of hair follicles to produce hair. Since its earliest beginnings in 1875, electrolysis has stood the test of time and is the only proven method for removing any and all hair permanently.

Electrolysis is the only method recognized by the FDA and AMA as permanent hair removal.
